Tigers may miss Shakib in NIDAHAS Trophy

Tigers may miss leading all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in the upcoming Twenty20 tournament against Sri Lanka and India.

The Bangladesh squad is leaving for Colombo on March 4 to play the NIDAHAS Trophy from March 6 to 16.

They will play their first match against India on March 8.

The skipper went to Thailand on Monday and is scheduled to return Thursday after undergoing physiotherapy as prescribed by orthopaedic specialist there.

Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) Chief Sports Physician Debashish Chowdhury said on Wednesday that they will give him physiotherapy for another week and will see then how Shakib responds.

“If we see progress, it (physiotherapy) will continue, otherwise we will have to take the next step,” he said and added Shakib’s rehabilitation will start after recovery from the injury.

According to bdnews24.com, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said they would decide whether Shakib will go to Sri Lanka after discussing the issue with him.

Shakib injured the little finger of his left hand during the final match against Sri Lanka in the tri-nation ODI series.

Bangladesh lost the match as well as the T20 and Test series against Sri Lanka, with Shakib sidelined.

They have included him in the squad for the upcoming series, but also kept Mehidy Hasan Miraz as his back-up.
