Sri Lanka taste their first defeat of the T20 World Cup 2021 as Australia beat them by 7 wickets.

Australia couldn’t ask for a better start chasing 155. A fiery start from Finch (37 off 23) enabled Australia to score 63 from the powerplay.

The opening partnership of 70 was broken by Hasaranga. He was the only bowler to give Australia some sort of hard times taking 2 for22 runs.

David Warner got his first half-century in T20 cricket since April this year. He was dropped at 18 which proved to be costly. He ended up scoring 65(41). After his departure, Smith and Stoinis safely took them home with 18 balls in hand

Earlier, Sri Lanka also started brilliantly with the bat. They scored 53/1 in the powerplay. Perera and Asalanka both scored 35 each.

Things were going good but then they quickly lost 4 wickets getting cut down to 92/5 from 72/1.

Bhanuka Rajapaksha once again came to the rescue of the Lankans with his finishing. His 33(26) gave Sri Lanka a fighting score of 154.

Sri Lanka got 43 in the last 4 overs. Adam Zampa kept Sri Lanka’s score within bounds by his spell of 2 wickets for 12 runs. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins took 2 wickets each for the Aussies.

Adam Zampa became the Player of the Match for his controlled bowling.
