Shakib Al Hasan touches another milestone

Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan reached 5000-run mark in ODI while playing against South Africa in the 1st match of a three-match series at De Beers Diamond Oval, Kimberley on Sunday.

Shakib, the world’s number-one all-rounder in all the three formats of cricket, started the match from 17 runs behind and touched the millstone with a single off Dwaine Pretorius in 19.4 overs when Bangladesh collected 94/2, reports UNB.

With this feat, Shakib has become only the 5th player to score 5000 runs and take 200 wickets in ODIs, after Sanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka), Shahid Afridi (Pakistan), Jacques Kallis (South Africa) and Abdur Razzaq (Pakistan).

Shakib who has become the 2nd highest ODI run getter of Bangladesh -- stayed after Tamim Iqbal (5743 runs in 173 matches at average 34.38), was caught by Hashim Amla off Imran Tahir scoring 29 off 45 balls, including two boundaries, at Bangladesh’s 126/3 in 26th over against Proteas.

Making his ODI debut against Zimbabwe at Harare in August 2006, Shakib played 178 matches so far to score 5012 runs, 34.80 on average. With ball he captured 224 wickets conceding average 29.49 runs.
