2021 has been a fantastic year for football lovers. With some unprecedented transfers and a few turn of events, which no one saw coming, this year will have a special place in the minds of football fans.
We take a look back at some of the most thrilling football games of the year.
Bayern vs PSG
Bayern and PSG faced each other in the quarterfinals of the 2020/21 edition of the UEFA Champions League. Despite having more than 20 shots on target and a huge number of chances created in the first leg, Bayern lost the game due to the absence of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.
After that, despite winning the second leg, PSG went to the semifinals owing to away goals.
Chelsea vs Real Madrid
This was the time when football fans across the world recognised the greatness of Thomas Tuchel's side. With very solid performances from N'Golo Kante, Chelsea managed to breeze past Real Madrid and went to the final of the Champions League for the third time in their history.
Chelsea vs Man City
Manchester City went to the final of the competition for the very first time in their history and were deemed as clear favourites of the trophy against Chelsea. Pep Guardiola surprised everyone by not including a defensive midfielder in his eleven and Chelsea won the match by a single goal courtesy to Kai Havertz.
France vs Switzerland
France's exit in the early stages of the Euros is possibly one of the most talked-about sporting events this year. A heroic effort from Yan Sommer, the Swiss goalkeeper and Mbappe's penalty miss produced a match that football fans won't forget this year.
Argentina vs Colombia
Argentina's Copa America triumph this year is remarkable for a lot of reasons, a massively important one of which is Emiliano Martinez's performance against Colombia along with his body language which will certainly be remembered.
England vs Italy
England managed to go to the last stage of a football tournament for the first time after their world cup triumph in 1966. But Italy redeemed the failure of not qualifying for the World cup of 2018 by winning on penalty shootouts.
Argentina vs Brazil
This year will be bright in the memory of football lovers all around the world due to the fact that Lionel Messi, arguably the greatest footballer in history, won his first International tournament when Argentina got the better of Brazil in the final of Copa America, thanks to a delightful chip by Angel Di Maria.
