Govt allocates Tk 14.98b for developments of sports

The government has allocated Tk 14.98 billion for the Youth and Sports Ministry in the proposed budget for fiscal year 2018-19, Tk 3.07 billion up from the revised budget of the last fiscal year.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith disclosed this while presenting the national budget for the new financial year at the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.

Of the total allocation, Tk 11.93 billion will be spent for the operating purpose and the rest of Tk 3.05 billion for the development sector.

In the revised budget for fiscal year of 2017-18, an allocation of Tk 9.65 billion was kept for the operating purpose while Tk 2.26 billion for the development purpose.

In his budget speech, Muhith said, "Our efforts for making the country's youth a skilled workforce and generating employment for them by providing proper education and training are continuing."

"At the same time, we have continued working to find talents in sports from the grassroots level, create skilled players through intensive training, undertake sports development programmes for trainee sportswomen and establish appropriate sports infrastructures," he further said.

The Finance Minister said women have already made commendable success in cricket and football with the government's encouragement and incentives, reports UNB.
