An all-round performance by captain Shakib Al Hasan guided Dhaka Dynamites into the 2nd slot of the 5th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Dhaka Dynamites defeated Rangpur Riders by 43 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.

After the match, Dhaka Dynamites and Khulna Titans secured 15 points each from all the 12 league encounters.

But Dhaka Dynamites (1.631) clinched the 2nd place by virtue of better net run rate forcing Khulna Titans (0.075) to the 3nd slot.

Comilla Victorians topped the list with 16 points from 11 matches.

Replying to Dhaka Dynamites' 137 runs for 7, Rangpur Riders, captained by Brendon McCullum, were forced to fold their innings cheaply for 94 runs for 7 in 20 overs.

Dhaka Dynamites captain Shakib Al Hasan decided to bat first after winning the toss and scored 137 for 7 in stipulated 20 overs.

However, the defending champions faced initial batting jolt losing top five wickets for 48 runs in 9.2 overs, but number six batsman Mehedi Maruf pairing with Shakib repaired the early damage contributing 55 runs in the 6th wicket stand.

Rangpur Riders rested their regular captain Mashrafe Mortaza as one of seven changes to their XI for the match. Chris Gayle, Ziaur Rahman, Chamara Kapugedara, Nazmul Islam, Sohag Gazi and Isuru Udana were also rested.

According to UNB, Rubel Hossain, Abdur Razzak, Shahriar Nafees, Ebadat Hossain, Johnson Charles, Adam Lyth and Samuel Badree were included.
