Bangladesh whitewash Zimbabwe

Bangladesh earned a comprehensive victory over Zimbabwe in the third one-day international match at Harare on Tuesday.

The Tigers thus whitewashed the hosts in the three-match ODI series.

Tamim Iqbal led from the front with a century (112 runs from 97 balls) to beat Brendan Taylor’s side by five wickets with 12 balls to spare chasing a target of 299 runs. The Bangladesh captain was the obvious choice for the man of the match award.

Nurul Hasan, playing as a replacement in this match, scored 45 off 39 balls and Afif Hossain had an unbeaten 26 from 17 balls when Bangladesh finished the innings hitting 302 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan has been adjudged man of the ODI series for his all-round performance.

Zimbabwe earlier set an almost run-a-ball target for Bangladesh, thanks to three scintillating half-centuries from Regis Chakabva (84), Sikandar Raza (57) and Ryan Burl (59).

The hosts looked dangerous from the beginning of the innings after Tamim Iqbal had sent them in to bat first.

Zimbabwe were eventually bowled out for 298 runs, although it seemed at one stage that they would score much more than 300 runs.

Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman and bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin captured three wickets apiece to stop the Zimbabwe onslaught at the two final overs. Mahmudullah Riad took two wickets including that of Taylor.

The Tigers have also won the one-off Test series against the hosts.

The two sides will now play three T20 matches beginning on July 23.
