Bangladesh suffered another heavy defeat by a margin of an innings and 8 runs in the 2nd Test match of the series--a match that lasted barely 2 and half days as Pakistan won the series 2-0.
Earlier, Bangladesh started the day at 76/7 in their first innings in a mission to save the Test match and earn a draw. But overnight batter Taijul Islam could only last 1.5 overs at the start of the day as Sajid Khan dismissed him for an lbw.
Tail ender Khaled Hossain could not hang in there with Shakib Al Hasan who was still batting on 24 as Hossain got out next over.
As Shakib got out for 34 runs playing a shot in the air to retain the strike next over, Bangladesh failed to overcome the follow-on barrier falling short by 14 runs.
Pakistan then enforced the follow-on as Bangladesh trailed by 213 runs.
As usual, the Bangladesh top order failed again. In just 8.1, overs top 4 were sent back to the dressing room by the Pakistani seamers.
Shadman Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque got out for 2,6,6 and 7 respectively as Bangladesh were in trouble at 25/4.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das formed some resistance. They formed a partnership of 73 runs before Liton Das got out on 45 runs.
Bangladesh were still trailing by 115 runs when Shakib Al Hasan joined Mushfiqur at the crease. The experienced duo of Mushfiqur and Shakib were looking comfortable and as their partnership reached 49 runs, Mushfiqur got run out in the 53rd over with the score reading 147/6.
The last recognised pair of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan had to bat out 37 overs to save the match.
As Miraz and Shakib were well on their way to do so with a 51 runs partnership, skipper Babar Azam took matters into his own hands by coming to bowl. To everyone’s surprise, he dismissed Miraz in the first ball who attempted a sweep shot and was out on 14 from 70 balls.
Skipper Babar Azam opened the doors for the other bowlers to exploit the pressure that Bangladesh were on as Sajid Khan took the most important wicket of Shakib who was holding the innings together with a score of 63 from 130 balls.
After that, it was only a matter of time. Sajid Khan finished the job by dismissing Khaled Hossain and Taijul Islam for 0 and 5 with only 4.2 overs of the day remaining.
Sajid Khan, for his 12 wickets in the match, was judged the player of the match.
