Remote places to get high-speed internet soon: Jabbar

Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said that the government will provide high-speed internet in all remote places of the country by this year.

"Through satellite connectivity, high-speed internet will be provided to 226 remote unions where cable connections can't be reached," the telecomm minister told UNB.

Jabbar said there are nearly 772 unions in the country including 111 enclaves where there is no internet connectivity at present and four projects have been initiated in this regard.

"So far high-speed internet was provided to 1200 unions by the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited while 2600 unions were connected under the Info-Sarker project," the minister said while talking to this correspondent on Wednesday.

The minister also said a team, including him and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Chairman Shahjahan Mahmood, would visit the remote islands of Sandwip soon.
