DU holds workshop on ‘Energy and Power’

A day-long workshop on ‘Applied Research on Energy and Power’ was held at an auditorium at Dhaka University (DU) today (Tuesday), said a press release.

The Institute of Energy (IE) of DU organised the workshop in cooperation with Energy and Power Research Council (EPRC).

Vice-Chancellor of DU Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman presided over the programme, while  Prime Minister’s Energy Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury addressed it as the chief guest.

Chairperson of Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council Shahin Ahmed Chowdhury, Member of SREDA Salima Jahan, Vice Chairman of Bengal Group of Industries Jashim Uddin, Chairman of SUMMIT Group of Companies Md Aziz Khan and President of BSREA Dipal Chandra Barua addressed the programme as special guests. Director of the Institute of Energy of DU Professor Dr Saiful Huque delivered welcome address.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for conducting a comprehensive effort to develop renewable energy sector in the country. He called upon the researchers to come forward with interdisciplinary approach to make this sector sustainable. Applied research is a must to promote the renewable energy sector, he added.

Academicians, researchers and higher officials from different academic institutions and companies participated in the workshop.
