Almas Kabir takes the helm of BASIS

Syed Almas Kabir, Chief Executive Officer of MetroNet Bangladesh Limited, has taken over the charge of president of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), the national trade body for IT and ITES industry of the country.

He replaces Mustafa Jabbar who became the posts and telecommunications minister. Mr Kabir has been associated with the ICT industry for the last 28 years. He studied Electrical Engineering at Jadavpur University, India and did his Masters from New York University.

He was attached to academia as an Associate Professor at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) for 13 years. He also was involved in various administrative roles at IUB, North South University and City University.

 Mr Kabir was an adjunct faculty at National University and Northern University. He has taken MetroNet to new heights since 2006, establishing it as the largest and most-trusted nationwide data-communication company in the country offering intranet, internet, IP telephony, cloud computing, fintech and other IT-enabled services.

Mr Kabir was elected as the Senior Vice President, Vice President and Treasurer of BASIS in the past. He has been elected as the President of American Alumni Association for the second time. — Statement
