MAGURA, June 23: An initiative has taken to boost zinc-enriched, heat-tolerant and highly-productive paddy cultivation in the district.
In this connection, the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Magura, arranged a training programme on cultivation of BINA - 16, 17 and 20 and BINA Aus-19.
A total of 135 farmers took part in the training.
BINA official sources said BINA-16 paddy is a short-duration variety. Farmers can harvest the crop after 100 days of cultivation.
The trainers informed per hectare production of BINA-16 is 5.5 tonnes while it is four tones in common varieties. Besides, per hectare production of BINA-17 paddy is eight tonnes.
Speakers in the programme also informed that BINA Aus-19 paddy is heat- tolerant. The paddy can easily grow ignoring extreme heat and drought-like situation.
After training, the farmers were provided paddy seeds and seed protection medicine.
In the inauguration ceremony of the training at BINA training centre, BINA DG Dr Biresh Kumar Goshami was the chief guest while BINA director Dr Jahangir Alam and project director Dr Abdul Malek were special guests.
BINA official Shampa Rani Ghosh moderated the programme with BINA Magura officer in charge Sushan Chowhan in the chair.
