‘Zero tolerance’ policy to fight irregularities: UGC chairman

Chairman of UGC Prof Kazi Shahidullah called upon the vice chancellors and registrars of public universities to work within the rules and regulations, mentioning that appropriate action will be taken against anyone involved in irregularities.

“There is no chance of going outside the law. Everything has to be done within the rules. And UGC has adopted ‘Zero tolerance’ policy to fight any kind of irregularities,” said Mr Shahidullah at a virtual event of the regulatory body on Tuesday.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the signing ceremony of the Annual Performance Agreement (APA) for the fiscal year 2020-2021 with 18 public universities of the country.

UGC has signed APA agreements with 47 public universities under the Public Performance Management System.

The APA was introduced to bring transparency and accountability in government operations, ensure proper utilisation of resources and develop institutional capacity.

Speakers at the meeting also stressed on ensuring quality education so that five to six universities are placed in the world rankings on the golden jubilee of the country's independence.
