Zakat fund mobilisation through dedicated entities could help eradicate poverty: Speakers

Zakat fund mobilisation through dedicated organisations in the country could help eradicate poverty a great deal and create new entrepreneurs, speakers have said at a seminar.

The proper use of the fund and its allocation in a structured way among the right beneficiaries can also help the country achieve its various socio-economic development goals, they told the seminar titled 'Institutional Management of Zakat' at a city hotel on Thursday. The seminar was part of the two-day-long 10th Zakat Fair 2022 that began on Thursday. The Centre for Zakat Management (CZM), a nonprofit organisation, organised the fair.

President of the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW) Lt Gen (Retd) M Noor Uddin Khan attended the seminar as the chief guest, with CZM Chairman Niaz Rahim in the chair.

In his speech, CZM Chairman Niaz Rahim said the nonprofit organisation has been mobilising the fund for all categories of benificiaries as directed in Islam.

"Different schemes undertaken by the CZM help ensure human resources flourishing through skill development, education and health," said Mr Rahim.

Sharing success stories of the CZM, he also said through the entrepreneurship development programme many beneficiaries have come out of their poverty within three-five years of getting the fund.

Zakat is one of the five pillars of the Islamic belief that compels capable individuals to pay out their surplus wealth among the designated beneficiaries every lunar year.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CZM Mohammad Ayub Miah presented a keynote paper.

According to the keynote presentation, there is a clear indication to mobilise the Zakat fund through an organisation so that the best use of the fund is ensured.

"Zakat involves huge management issues thus needs institutional Zakat," said the keynote presenter.

The CZM mobilises the Zakat fund – given by different entities – through a complete organisational structure in the light of quran-hadith and in compliance with the state rules and regulations.
