Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal was shifted to a cabin from the ICU of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Wednesday.
The eminent writer has been undergoing treatment at CMH after suffering serious injuries in a knife attack.
Assistant Director of Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) Directorate Rezaul Karim said Dr Zafar Iqbal was taken to the cabin at noon as his physical condition improved.
However, doctors are yet to decide about his discharge from the hospital, he added.
According to UNB, Prof Zafar Iqbal came under attack at the Mukta Mancha of Shahjajal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet on March 4.
The renowned writer was first taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital soon after the incident.
Later, he was taken to the CMH in Dhaka on the same day following the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
