A writ has been filed with the High Court seeking its directive to ban unauthorised hoisting of foreign flags across the country during the upcoming Football World Cup 2018.

Freedom fighter Mohammad Nurul Amin filed the writ with the bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafor Ahmed on Sunday.

The writ petition has been kept in the cause list for hearing today (Monday), says a UNB report.

According to the writ petition, the Football World Cup is scheduled to start on June 14 in Russia.

It is seen that football fans in Bangladesh hoist the flags of their favourite countries during the Football World Cup, especially that of Argentina, Brazil and Germany.

According to rules of People’s Republic of Bangladesh, 1972, there are restrictions on the use of foreign flags. It requires approval to hoist foreign flags without having foreign diplomatic missions in Bangladesh.
