Director General (DG) of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Maj Gen Shafeenul Islam on Monday said they are working in coordination with the border forces of India and Myanmar to check cross-border crimes, including smuggling.
"We've good relations with the border forces of our neighbouring countries-- India and Myanmar. We're working in a coordinated way to check all types of cross-border crimes, including smuggling," he said.
The BGB chief came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after visiting 'Border Surveillance and Response System' set up at Putkhali border in Benapole, reports UNB.
Shafeenul Islam said they have successfully established a Crime Free Zone at Putkhali in cooperation with Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
He said a new dimension will be added to protecting the border when the work on Border Surveillance and Response System will be completed.
"The system will play an effective role in curbing all types of cross-border crimes with the help of modern technology."
To set up the 'Border Surveillance and Response System', BGB officials said Bangladesh's 399-km border area with India and Myanmar has been identified as the sensitive and vulnerable one.
Border Surveillance and Response System will be implemented installing various types of border surveillance devices, including thermal image detector camera and radar, to prevent crimes effectively in Bangladesh part with BGB's strong monitoring.
