Law Minister Anisul Huq on Saturday said women are falling victim to violence while trying to establish their rights.

The minister said "Not only the women are becoming victims of violence physically, but they are also being mentally tortured and tormented to this end."

He came up with the remarks while speaking at an inaugural session of a workshop styled ‘Role of Government Legal Services in the Prevention of Family Violence’ at the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in the capital.

He said the ruling Awami League government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, enacted various laws specially to ensure the rights of poor, disadvantaged and downtrodden women and children, according to a press release.

Those laws are playing a vital and effective role to protect their rights, the minister said.
