Woman who lost leg in Banani bus accident dies

Rosina Akter, who lost a leg in a bus accident in Dhaka’s Banani recently, has succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The medical staff declared Rosina dead at 7:20am on Sunday, bdnews24 reports quoting sub-inspector Bachchu Mia, also in-charge of DMCH police outpost.

Rosina, who hailed from Mymensingh, had worked as a domestic helper at the home of Dhaka-based journalist Syed Ishtiaq Reza. Reza said she had become part of the family.

An Uttara-bound BRTC bus from Mohakhali hit Rozina while she was crossing the road close to Chairman Bari in the evening of April 20. Her right leg got severed from the thigh, according to a UNB report.

Despite two rounds of surgery, doctors at the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation were forced to amputate her right leg near the hip.

Rosina was transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit on Apr 25 after her condition deteriorated. She was later transferred to the High Dependency Unit, but could not be saved.
