A woman has lost her five-month-old boy after he fell down from her lap as muggers attacked her in Dhaka city on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Arafat, son of Shah Alam and Aklima Begum, hailing from Shariatpur district town.

The attack took place at the Doyaganj point of Sutrapur around 7 in the morning as Aklima along with her son was going t Shanir Akhra in a rickshaw, said police quoting the family.

Bachchu Miah, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) Police Outpost said that as the woman tried in vain to resist snatching away her bag, her son fell down and was critically injured.

He was then whisked off to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead, he added.

The couple Shah Alam and Aklima faced the tragdy just after reaching the city by launch. Another child, ailing Alamin, of them was with Shah Alam to see doctors at DMCH.
