A woman died of mosquito-borne disease dengue at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Mousumi Akhter, 25, wife of Md Mamun of Bhandaria in Pirojpur.
Quoting family members, DMCH police camp in-charge Inspector Bacchu Mia said Mousumi died at the intensive care unit around 11:40am.
She was diagnosed with dengue at Mohakhali TB Hospital on Wednesday several days after had been suffering from fever, Bacchu said.
She was initially taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital as her condition deteriorated. From there, she was shifted to DMCH, UNB reports.
Bangladesh and other Southeast Asian countries have been struggling with dengue this year as the disease caused hundreds of deaths.
Dhaka has so far confirmed 40 deaths and more than 43,000 cases since January.
Dengue fever usually causes severe flu-like symptoms, including high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pain, and a characteristic skin rash.
There is no specific treatment, the WHO says, but early detection and access to proper medical care lowers fatality rates below 1.0 per cent.
