Warning signal 2 issued for maritime ports as cyclone ‘Gulab’ nears

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox'sbazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep distant warning signal no. Two (R) Two hoisted as Cyclonic Storm "GULAB" now lies over Northwest Bay and adjoining West-central Bay.

The Cyclonic Storm "GULAB" over Northwest Bay and adjoining West-central Bay moved westwards, now lies over the same area, and was centred at 6:00am on Sunday about 665 kms south-southwest of Chattogram port, 525 kms-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 525 kms south of Mongla port and 525 kms south of Payra port, a special met office bulletin issued on Saturday said.

It is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction further, it said.

The maximum sustained wind speed 54 kms of the Cyclone centre is about 62 KPH rising to 88 KPH in gusts/ squalls, as per the bulletin.

The sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre, it stated.

All fishing boats and trawlers have been advised to come closer to the coast and proceed with caution. They are advised not to venture into the deep sea.
