A number of voters at some polling stations in Dhaka city have failed to cast their vote in the election in absence of either any voter list or any person to help them.

Even some failed to find out the details about their voting information, including polling centre, serial number and voter number, due to the total mobile internet outage since last night.

FE correspondents, who visited different polling stations, witnessed the situation while visiting there in the city on the election day.

A voter, Najnil Sultana, who came to cast her vote at the Kamalapur Bus Depot polling centre, said she found neither any person to help her find out the serial number, nor the voter list to find it out for herself.

When asked about this, Presiding Officer Abdus Salam Sardar admitted to the trouble and said that though he was aware of this, it goes beyond his capacity to do anything about this.

Similar situation was seen at the Mirza Abbas Mohila Degree College polling centre in Dhaka city’s Shahjahanpur area.

Meanwhile, in the midday, voters in the city’s polling stations started increasing with the sun shining in full, bringing warmth in the weather.

A total of 104.2 million voters are expected to cast their votes today — from 8:00am and 4:00pm without any break — to elect their representatives in 299 constituencies out of 300.

The election in Gaibandha-3 constituency has been suspended as Jatiya Oikya Front candidate Dr TIM Fazle Rabbi died due to old age complications at a hospital on December 20.

A total of 1,861 candidates from 39 political parties are competing in the 11th national election.
