Blood donors are ‘human heroes’, says minister

Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi termed voluntary blood donors as ‘human hero’ and said they are working silently for the country by meeting the need of people of blood.

“The humanity side of the sacrifice of them is great and enormous’ the minister said while addressing a reception function organised by Quantum Foundation at IDEB Bhaban on Monday to honour over 300 blood donors on the occasion of celebrating Mujib Year and month of Independence.

QF Chief Coordinator Madam Nahar Al Bukhari presided over the function where Director Motivier M Rezaul Hasan delivered the welcome address.

The minister also handed over crests, certificates, and ID among the donors in recognition of donating at least 3 times, 10, times, 25 times, and 50 times to save people.

On behalf of donors, Nazia Farhana Ononnya also shared experience as a blood donor, thalassemia patient Raqibul Rahman Rusho on behalf of the blood recipient.

The minister said blood donation is considered a great work for humanity once voluntary donors make it a habit.

Praising the QF for creating the platform for blood donating side by side with other service-oriented work, the Textile and Jute Minister said they are actually working for the country, for the people of the country.

The speakers at the function laid importance on the increase of the number of voluntary donors as huge demand for blood remains unattended in the country.

The country has a demand for over 800,000 units of blood every year. The Foundation has been working to meet the demand with voluntary donors since 1996. During the last two decades, QF was able to supply 1.3 million blood.
