Vessel movement resumes at Chattogram port after 3 hrs

The vessel movement at the outer anchorage of the Chittagong Port resumed on Friday afternoon after three hours following a head-on collision between two vessels at the estuary of the Bay of Bengal and the Karnafuli River in the morning.

The accident occurred around 8:45am on Friday. No causality was reported, reports UNB.

Secretary of Chattogram port Omar Faruk said the collision occurred when an oil tanker was heading towards the outer anchorage from jetty of the port while another container-laden vessel was entering the jetty, reports UNB.

The vessel movement resumed at 12pm after a tug boat removed the two vessels, he said.

A three-member probe body was formed to investigate the matter and was asked to submit a report within three days.
