A vegetable trader, identified as Saiful Islam, was killed when a truck hit him in the Karwan Bazar area of the capital on Tuesday morning.
Bachchu Mia, a sub-inspector at the police camp of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said Saiful went to Karwan Bazar wholesale market in the morning to purchase vegetables where he was hit hard by a truck and got injured seriously.
He was later rescued and taken to the DMCH where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Bachchu Mia said Saiful was from Rangpur Sadar, and he lived in the Karail slum area in Dhaka.
His corpse was kept in the DMCH morgue for the autopsy, Bachchu told the newspeople.
