Most of the vegetable farmers of the district are happy over the production as they are applying modern technology on their field.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) peasants of Dupchanchia, Kahaloo, Adamdighi, Sherpur, Sariakandi, Sonatola, Dhunot, Nandigram, Shajahanpur, Shibganj, Gabtoly and Sadar upazilas of the district have applied modern method on French bean, tomato, lettuce, capsicum, brinjal, BT brinjal, sweet potato, cauliflower, broccoli, bean, pumpkin and spinach land.
Growers are using quality seeds and applying modern method in vegetable field for producing fresh yield, said deputy director of the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC).
"I have cultivated okra on 23 decimals of land this season spending Tk 4,500 to pay fartiliser, pesticide and seed cost," said farmer Hamidul Islam of Pushinda village under Adamdighi upazila.
"Using latest technologies in my cropland, I got over 12 maunds of crop and sold those at Tk 21,000." he also said.
In a recent visit in Madnai village under Kahaloo upazila, this correspondent found farmers were taking care of their land. They were also happy of the present market rate of their produce.
Deputy director of DAE Protul Chandra Sarker said farmers are now capable of growing three to four crops in a land.
