The US Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide more support to the marginalised people in Chittagong Hill Tracts, aimed at ensuring their socio-economic development.

US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat on Wednesday came up with the remarks while talking to the reporters at Bandarban deputy commissioner's office on the second day of her visit to the district.

Recalling the USAID's support in education, health and nutrition sectors for the people of the hilly areas, Bernicat said USAID will scale up its finance to expand the area of actions for the remote and isolated communities in the district.

The ambassador met zila parishad chairman and king of the Bomang Circle, Engineer Utch Pru Chowdhury, police super Zakir Hossain Majumdar and also visited an USAID-sponsored project in the hilly areas.

A team of 21 representatives, including USAID Country Director Karnia Zaruski, also attended the meetings, reports UNB.
