A union parishad member has been killed and ten others suffered injuries when a speedboat turned upside down after being hit by a ferry at Shimulia Ghat area in Munshiganj on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Sufiya Begum, 60, a member of Hashara Union Parishad in Srinagar upazila and wife of Selim Sheikh of Hashara village.
Officer-in-Charge of Louhajang Police Station, Liakat Ali said the speedboat carrying 18 passengers turned turtle after being hit by a ferry while heading to Kathalbari from Shimulia Ghat around 9:15 am, leaving Sufia dead and injuring ten others.
The other passengers of the speedboat were rescued, UNB reported quoting the Assistant General Manager of BIWTC Shimulia Ghat, Khandaker Shah Mohammad Khaled.
