UN HR official to arrive on Friday

UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Andrew Gilmour is set to arrive in Bangladesh on Friday on a four-day official tour to see the current situation of the Rohingya refugees.

Gilmour will be in Cox's Bazar from March 2 to 4, where he will visit camps housing Rohingya refugees from Myanmar and speak to those who fled across the border in recent weeks.

The senior UN official will also meet with local government officials and non-governmental organisations, as well as UN and other humanitarian partners, reports UNB citing an official release.

On March 5, Gilmour is due to meet with senior government officials and representatives from Bangladesh's National Human Rights Commission in Dhaka to discuss the human rights situation in Cox's Bazar.

At the end of his trip, the UN Assistant Secretary-General will issue a statement to the media.
