UK foreign secretary arrives in Dhaka

British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson arrived in Dhaka Friday afternoon on a two-day visit in Bangladesh.

His maiden visit as foreign secretary aims to promote bilateral ties between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.

Boris Johnson will discuss the Rohingya issue during his visit.

Sources said, the UK foreign secretary is also expected to discuss the matters relating to the cargo ban imposed on Bangladesh by the UK government in 2016.

The issues related to Brexit and visa will be discussed with importance during this visit.

Boris will also call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and hold a bilateral meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart AH Mahmood Ali on various issues.

BSS said, he will also visit Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar to have first-hand inside on the plight of Rohingya people.

The displaced people took shelters in Bangladesh fleeing ethnic violence in Myanmar's Rakhine state after August 25, 2017.
