A day-long workshop was held at University Grants Commission (UGC) on Saturday, aimed at creating awareness on medical e-resources among the medical professionals.
UGC Digital Library (UDL) and Wolters Kluwer jointly organised the workshop where prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman of UGC, was chief guest, according to a statement.
Addressing the workshop, UGC Chairman Prof Mannan said that Bangladesh has made tremendous progress in infrastructure development, education and health sectors. He underscored the need for enhancing the capacity of medical professionals and producing skilled medical technicians for serving the health care sector of the country.
Conducting medical science research is highly expensive, the UGC Chairman said and urged the medical professionals to conduct research in technology and develop techniques to tackle health related problems.
"We have to bring qualitative changes in medical education," Mannan said and urged the healthcare professionals to enhance connectivity among them. He said UGC is working to bring the medical e-resources in a common platform so that one can easily use it.
UGC member of Prof Akhtar Hossain said "Health sector will move forward if we create awareness to conduct research using e-resources." He also emphasised increase of e-resources at medical colleges and universities.
Prof ABM Abdullah, Dean of Faculty of Medicine at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dr Md Mokhlesur Rahman, senior operations officer of World Bank, Bangladesh and Rajesh K Singh, Vice President of Wolters Kluwer spoke on the occasion as special guests while Abdur Rezzaque, Acting Secretary, UGC gave the address of welcome.
UGC Member Professor Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah and high officials of UGC, among others were present on the occasion.
Vice-Chancellors and Pro Vice-Chancellors of different medical universities, principals of government and private medical colleges, researchers of medical related research institutes participated at the workshop, reports UNB.
