UAE to recruit BD nationals in 19 categories

Bangladesh and the UAE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for recruiting manpower from the former in 19 categories, paving the way for opening up the much awaiting job market very soon.

Namita Halder, secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment (MoEWOE) and Saif Ahmed Musabah Al Suwaidi, under-secretary of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Dubai on Wednesday.

Nasser bin Thani Al Hamli, minister for the ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, among others were, present at the signing ceremony, according to a press release issued by the MoEWOE.

The government of Bangladesh has been negotiating with the authority of Arab country to reopen the market since 2012 as the UAE has refrained from hiring manpower from Bangladesh.

According to the press release, all necessary elements, including recruitment mechanisms, role of recruiting agencies and sending and receiving countries, workers security and benefits have been mentioned in the MoU.

Besides, a joint committee will be formed with the concerned officials from both countries to implement the MoU.

Talking to The Financial Express, Benjir Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) considered the deal as the process of reopening the market.

“It is good news for Bangladeshi workers,” he said.

Mr Ahmed hoped that the Arab country would resume workers recruitment from Bangladesh shortly.

More than 2.3 million Bangladeshi workers went to the oil-rich country with jobs between 1976 and March 2018, according to the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET).
