Two vessels capsise in Pashur River, one missing

A man went missing as two vessels including a passenger launch sank in Pashur River in the Sundarabns of Mongla upazila of Bagerhat district during a storm on Tuesday night.

Fertilizer-laden cargo vessel 'ML Hardda' sank in the river to at Harbaria point while unloading fertilizer, due a storm that swept over the country in the night, a forest officer of Sundarbans East zone said.

Besides, an unidentified man went missing when passenger-launch 'ML-Aktar' with 25 people on board sank in the Pashur River at Nandabala in the upazila during the storm around 8:45 pm.

The launch was heading towards Mongla port, the forest officer Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan said. He said that all other passengers managed to swim ashore, reports UNB.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard members and officials of the Mongla Port Authorities are conducting a rescue operation till filling of this report around 10:30 am Wednesday.
