A Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to suspended acting principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Naznin Ferdous and another teacher in a case filed over the suicide incident of a ninth grader.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury granted the bail to Naznin Ferdous and Zinnat Akhtar, the suspended morning shift-in-charge, until submission of the police report.

The two teachers, who remained absconding, surrendered before the court in the morning and sought bail.

Earlier in December, the court granted bail to Hasna Hena, another accused teacher of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, in the case.

Aritree Adhikari, a class-IX student of the school, reportedly committed suicide at their Shantinagar residence in the capital city on December 3 after allegedly being rebuked by teachers for using mobile phone during examination.

Following the incident, the victim's father Dilip Adhikari filed a case against three teachers of the school.

It sparked a wave of outrage inside and outside the school and students demonstrated at the campus for three days demanding justice over the incident.

Later, the governing body of the school suspended its three teachers — acting Principal Nazneen Ferdous, morning shift in-charge of Bailey Road branch Zinnat Akhtar and Aritree's class teacher Hasna Hena — over the suicide case.
