Two railway policemen withdrawn over 'gang-rape'

Two railway policemen, including the officer-in-charge of Khulna Government Railway Police (GRP) Station, were withdrawn on Wednesday for their suspected involvement with the reported gang-rape of a woman.

The action was taken against Railway Police Station OC Osman Goni and Sub-inspector Nazmul Haque, said Assistant Police Superintendent (Railway Circle) Firoz Ahmed.

On August 5, a three-member probe body was formed to look into the reported gang-rape of a woman by five railway policemen before she was arrested as a drug pedlar.

The probe body, led by Firoz, was asked to submit its report within seven working days, says a UNB report.

Victim’s cousin said the woman came to Khulna from Jashore on Friday by train. As she got down at Khulna Railway Station around 7:30pm, some policemen took her to Khulna GRP Station where five policemen, led by OC Goni, gang-raped her.

The next day, police produced the woman before a court showing her arrested with five bottles of contraband Phensedyl.

As the victim raised the allegation in the courtroom, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court ordered medical test on her.
