Two new dengue cases reported in 24 hrs: DGHS

Two new dengue cases were reported in the last 24 hours until 8am on Tuesday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Currently, four dengue patients are being treated at hospitals in Dhaka, said the daily update from DGHS.

The health authorities in Bangladesh reported 318 dengue cases since the beginning of this year. Of them, 314 have been discharged.

Bangladesh had a massive dengue outbreak last year when 101,354 people were hospitalised. Of them, 101,037 made full recovery.

According to official figures, the mosquito-borne disease killed 179 people last year.

In order to protect city dwellers from dengue, a special clean-up operation to control Aedes mosquito was launched in all 54 wards of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) from June 6.

During the 10-day operation, the DNCC found Aedes larvae at 1,601 houses and establishments and imposed fines of Tk 24 lakh.

On the other hand, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on June 7 launched a year-long mosquito exterminaiton campaign in 73 wards.

The city corporation also launched a special anti-mosquito drive in different hospitals from Saturday so that patients undergoing treatment at the hospitals are not affected by dengue, reports UNB.
