Two industrial policemen caught extorting in Ashulia

Police have arrested two members, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), of the industrial branch on charges of holding hostage people for extortion at Ashulia in Savar, an outskirt Dhaka upazila.

They also rescued four people, including a woman, and seized a microbus, said Ashulia Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Awal on Wednesday, adding that they are interrogating the duo now, reports UNB.

According to sources said ASI Makbul Hossain along with his gang had been holding hostage people in the microbus and realising a hefty amount of money as ransom from their families through bKash.

Considering the garments sector’s vital role in the national economy of Bangladesh, the government introduced ‘Industrial Police’ on 31 October, 2010.

The industrial sector got the sepcialised law enforcement agency after some labour unrest and violence in this sector had pulled a thread to the economy in previous couple of years.
