Two get death penalty over murder

A court in Narayanganj has sentenced two people to death in a case filed over killing a minor boy in 2012.

The convicts are Mohiuddin Hasnat and Saiful Islam. Of them, Mohiuddin's trial was held in absentia, reports UNB.

According to the prosecution, Jharna Begum, wife of Tofajjal Hossain, a resident of Manipur in Dhaka's Mirpur area had picked up a quarrel with her daughter and son-in-law Mahiuddin Hasnat over a trifling matter in August, 2012.

Angered by the incident, Hasnat along with his accomplices abducted Ashiqur Rahman Rifat, 11, son of Tofajjal and took him to Navana Bhuiya City in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj where they killed Rifat by slitting his throat after tying up his hands and legs on August 10, 2012.

Siddhirganj Police recovered the throat-slit body of Rifat.

Following media report, Tofazzal identified the body and filed a case with Narayanganj Police Station.

After examining records and witnesses, Narayanganj Additional District and Session Judge Mohammad Rabiul Awal handed down the verdict.
