Two drug suspects die in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Two suspected drug traders were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Katabunia of Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf upazila in the early hours of  Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Hasan Ali, 24, and Mohammad Kamal, 24.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, was quoted by UNB news agency as saying that hearing gunshots and an exchange of fire in Jhau Bagan area, a patrol team of police rushed there.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire to police, prompting them to fire back that triggered a gun battle.

After the brief gunfight, police recovered two bullet-hit bodies, six firearms and 25 rounds of bullets from the spot.

Three policemen also sustained injuries during the gunfight.
