Two suspected robbers have died in an alleged gunfight with members of the Rapid Action Battalion in Dhaka's Tejgaon Industrial Area.

The deceased were Nayeem, 35, and Jamal, 38. Further details about them could not be known immediately, local media reports say.

A constable from RAB-2 Control Room, Imran said, "Members of a robbery gang were fleeing in a small pick-up van via Satrasta, prompting a signal from a RAB check-post there to pull up.

"They instead fired at them. The RAB members opened fire in retaliation, leaving two members of the gang critically injured.

"Immediately after they were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, doctors declared them dead."

The RAB have recovered two pistols and the pick-up van from the spot.
