Two die after taking herbal medicine in Kushtia

A man and a minor girl died and another man fell sick after taking herbal medicine at Kharara in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia on Sunday night.

The deceased were identified as Nur Mohammad, 50, son of Polan Sheikh and Shamima, 9, daughter of Nawab Ali of the area.

Locals said that Nur Mohammad went to the house of Nawab Ali at night to watch television. As he was suffering from cough, Nawab Ali gave him a herbal medicine 'Mary Gold' of 'Nabin Laboratory' which was bought two months ago.

Nawab and his daughter Shamima also took the same medicine for cough, says a UNB report.

Shamima fell sick around 10:30pm and she was taken to Bheramara Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead, said Dr Mizanur Rahman, medical officer of the hospital.

Nur Mohammad and Nawab Ali also fell sick in the early hours of Monday.

Nur Mohammad died on way to hospital while Nawab Ali was admitted to Kushtia General Hospital.

Abul Kalam, officer-in-charge of Mirpur police Station, said that on information they recovered the bodies and they will conduct a drive in the factory of the herbal medicine.
