Turkey expressed interests on Sunday to invest in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and shipbuilding sectors in Bangladesh.

The Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mustafa Osman Turan expressed his country’s interests while he called on State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury at his secretariat office.

He proposed his country’s interests to set up LPG plant through the joint venture on the bank of the river Karnaphuli in Chattogram and in the shipbuilding sector.

The ambassador said that his country also wants to invest in special economic zones in Bangladesh.

The state minister for shipping called upon the Turkish envoy to recruit Bangladeshi skilled and trained sailors in his country’s merchant ships.

He said that if both countries recognise each others' certificates of competencies, then it would help the sailors of these two nations get employment.

Khalid Mahmud laid emphasis on exchanging modern technology and training for Bangladeshi engineers and technicians in the shipbuilding sector.

The Turkish envoy assured the state minister for recruiting Bangladeshi sailors in his country’s merchant shipping and providing training to Bangladeshi engineers and technicians in the shipbuilding sector.

They also discussed the Bilateral Shipping Agreement in 1986 between Bangladesh and Turkey.

Mr Chowdhury handed over Bangabandhu’s ‘The unfinished memoir’ to Turkish envoy.

Shipping Secretary Mohammed Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury was also present.
