US President Donald Trump plans to nominate veteran US diplomat Earl R Miller to be his ambassador to Bangladesh, the White House said.

Miller, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, has served as an American diplomat since 1987.

Since 2014, he has served as ambassador at the US Embassy in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana.

Prior to his Botswana assignment, Miller served as consul general in Johannesburg from 2011 to 2014, reports bdnew24.

He also was regional security officer at the embassies in New Delhi from 2008 to 2011, in Baghdad from 2007 to 2008, and in Jakarta from 2004 to 2007, the White House said in a statement on Tuesday.

Miller is poised to replace Ambassador Marcia Bernicat, who assumed her position in Bangladesh in January 2015.
