The government of neighbouring Indian state Tripura has urged Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to invest in its ICT sector, especially in data centre.
Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb made the call at a conference with a visiting Bangladeshi delegation held in the state's capital Agartala on Thursday evening.
The conference titled 'Digital Bangladesh IT Business Summit 2022' was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) under the ICT Department and the Agartala High Commission, according to a statement issued by Bangladesh ICT Division.
ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and BHTPA Managing Director Bikarna Kumar Ghosh attended the meeting among others.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Tripura Chief Minister observed that digitalisation means becoming free from corruption and making communications faster.
"So if you want to take a country forward, you have to digitise," he said.
In his speech, Zunaid Ahmed Palak highlighting the potential of building 'Smart Bangladesh' in 2041 said the country wants to collaborate with Tripura to establish Smart Bangladesh and Smart Tripura becoming knowledge partners to each other.
"Since we have the same climate, environment and culture, we can formulate policies on smart education, health care, agriculture, environment - all these together to build an innovative nation, if we want," he said.
He also hinted that the entrepreneurs in the ICT industry of Bangladesh can invest in the special economic zone that is being set up over an area of 20 hectares in Tripura.
Bangladesh and India have a cordial, friendly and trusting relationship, he said and added: "We want to move forward together by making it closer and stronger".
Tripura's Sports, Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Home Minister Ram Prasad Pal, and Bangladesh High Commissioner in Tripura Arif Mohammad attended the conference, among others.
