Tribunals for women have 165,550 pending cases: Law Minister

A total of 165,550 cases are pending with Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunals across the country.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq made the disclosure at Parliament on Wednesday.

"As of December 31, 2017, the total number of cases which are under trial in the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunals across Bangladesh is 1,65,550 ones," he said while replying to an un-starred (written) question from Awami league MP Didarul Alam (Chittagong-4).

Of the cases, 44,546 are in Dhaka Division, while 43,030 in Chittagong Division, 16,128 in Rajshahi Division, 19,138 in Khulna Division, 10,163 in Barisal Division, 11,807 in Sylhet Division and 20,738 in Rangpur Division, the minister said.

Meanwhile, the government has given approval to constitute 41 more Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunals for the quick disposal of cases, he added, reports UNB.
