Transport strike underway in Sylhet

A 12-hour transport strike enforced by transport workers is underway in Sylhet division on Monday to press home their seven-point demand.

The strike, enforced by Sylhet divisional unit of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, started at 6:00am and will continue till 6:00pm.

Selim Ahmed Folik, president of the federation of the Sylhet divisional unit, said their demands include filing of case over the death of Sylhet Agriculture University student Md Wasim Abbas under section-304 instead of section 302 of the Penal Code, reduction of fine under the Road Transport Act, 2018 from Tk 0.5 million to Tk 50,000, stopping of police harassment on roads and highways in the name of checking.

According to a UNB report, the strike was announced from a press conference at Sylhet Press Club on Saturday.
