Train, truck collision suspends movement on Jashore-Benapole route

A head-on collision between a cargo train and an onion-laden truck at Jhikorgachi in Jashore early Friday suspended train movement on the Jashore-Benapole route for 12-hours.

According to Bangladesh Railway, the accident occurred around 3:30 am when the truck bound for Noapara from Benapole tried to cross the rail track ignoring the signal of train arrival.

The locomotive of the cargo train were derailed in the accident suspending train service on the route until 2:00pm.

General Manager of BR Western Zone Mihir Kanti Guha told the FE that as the accident occurred on branch line, train service on other routes was not affected.

“Benapol Express which was supposed to start from Benapol at 12:45pm started from Jashore at 2:40pm for Dhaka. The passengers of Benapol reached to Jeshore on their own arrangement to avail the train service,” he said.

The GM also said a relief train removed the goods train from the spot after working since 9:30am.

No injury was reported in the accident.
