A train has derailed in Gazipur district town on Friday morning snapping railway communications between Dhaka and the northern region.
A carriage of the Dhaka-bound Rangpur Express train went off the tracks around 9:45am near the Salna Bazar, local media reported citing Joydebpur Railway Junction Master Md Shajahan.
It led to suspensions in railway communications of Dhaka with Tangail, Khulna and Rangpur, Shahjahan said.
A major accident could have taken place causing casualties if the driver had not controlled the speed of the train in time, he added.
A relief train is now on the scene trying to drag the train on the tracks, said Subrata Das, chief of Railway Police Camp at Joydebpur Railway Junction.
