TIB stresses good governance

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has called for building a corruption-free and well-governed country in the spirit of Ekushey, according to a statement.

Ekushey February is observed nationally as the Language Martyrs' Day and globally as the International Mother Language Day.

Terming corruption-free, non-discriminatory, non-communal and democratic country as the central elements of the spirit of Ekushey, TIB also said the undying spirit of Ekushey inspires us to stand up against injustice, inequality, discrimination and oppression.

In the media release, TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said the historic and glorious Language Movement is full of passion, struggle and rebellion.

Along the path of Ekushey, Banglalees have repeatedly stood up against injustice and exploitation, and achieved the independence in 1971 Liberation War. The nation gets the motivation and elation to resist the evil force with the determination not to give up, he insists.

Ekushey should be a unique source of inspiration to prevent corruption, Dr Zaman points out.

Corruption must be ended with the spirit of this Ekushey, he said, adding that the struggle to get rid of all kinds of discrimination must continue.

Terming the spirit of Ekushey as inseparable, he also laid emphasis on an anti-corruption movement.

Dr Iftekharuzzaman said it is a matter of grave concern that there is a culture of denial or denial syndrome in the government and its administration.

Dr Zaman said any attempt or bid to dismiss or deny any kind of corruption, irregularities and allegations are constantly questioning the political and state commitments.

The Ekushey is observed at the national level amid myriad commemorative events to pay homage to the martyrs of the Language Movement.
